Un expected plan of event started on Friday night before the MLF competition on Saturday. I got a phone call from the best in league to catch some bass with him In the major league fishing at Rust De Winter.
Rust De Winter hasn't been a dam of confidence for me. After this day fishing with Lappies I have a much better understand of how to catch bass at Rust De Winter.
The day started at the dam wall side at rust de winter throwing top water lures like buzz toads and spooks. The spook was working really well do to it side to side walk. The clear water at rust de winter and the submerged grass was ideal for this presentation. We had two fish on the boat on the spook.
While the spook was catching bass I was throwing around a 6th Sense clout on a belly weighted hook. This presentation worked well up shallow around all the lilly pads and shallow grass. We did Catch fish on a weightless white fluke, This also worked really well up shallow and lappies used it as a darting bait fish on the surface.
The bigger bass where not wiling to play so we moved around Rust De winter throwing around A Spinner Bait and punching Isolated grass patches. Punching beaver style baits or craw baits was ideal for those isolated grass patches in the main dam. We did catch a couple and we also lost a really good one aswell.
After we gave the main dam a good shot we moved up river and started pitching reads and and grass. This is were the fun really began and we were catching bass. the bass in the river section of the river were better quality fish and we could cull most of our fish. The baits were using were beaver style baits and craws. The colour didn't matter due to the fishing hanging onto cover and us having to make tight pitches onto cover.
The Day over all was really fun and I learnt alot from the best fisherman in the league. Our over all weight for the day was Kg 3,34 and the winning bag was Kg 5,88.
Rust de winter was fishing tough and the bigger fish were not out to play.
