Come along as I join the Iowa Kayak Anglers club as they host their third kayak bass fishing tournament of the 2022 on Lake MacBride near Iowa City, IA.
I pre-fished the weekend before the tournament to learn at least a part of the lake and stuck with the area I learned. The top water bite on the Spro Flappin Frog seemed to be about all I could get bites on throughout the day flipping into, over and across the edge scum on the lake.
This was the first real test of my new Motorguide Xi3 bow mount trolling motor on my Native Titan 12 and it really helped me cover water to put fish on the board.
The difference maker for climbing the leader board seemed to be that one kicker fish to add to a limit of fifteen inchers. I never did find a big one, but several others did that pushed them up in the standings.
The lake is a fun place to fish as it is the only lake in Iowa that has Kentucky Spotted Bass. I even managed to catch one long enough to contribute to my total length.
The final tournament of their series is coming up in a few weeks and I hope to be able to fish that and bring you guys along.
