My best lure fishing session for Bass this year , most enjoyable catching Bass on Lures in daylight and in to the early evening.
A fair few fish over 42cm . At one point In the film say its 30 Bass but actually it was 20 ! That just shows even when things are going well I exaggerated in my head !
Im asked why I don’t use a net- The net is useful for the bigger bass. With the bigger ones I will give the time in Oxygenated water to recover.
However with the smaller fish we had today its just a case of unhooking them and back in as soon as possible. You shouldn’t be holding a small bass in the water stopping it going as they are tough and ready to swim away.
I say this as there will usually be someone saying I need to sit in the water and cuddle the bass for ages- Not so with shoal fish like these.
The first Lure I landed the fish on is called ESPETIT shallow 120m floating
The Superb Lure that Landed 20 plus bass (all on the same lure) was Shimano Silent assassin in that cotton candy colour.
I do wonder if its the luminous belly that the bass were picking out.
I wonder if anything would of done but i have a feeling you should stick to the same Lure once its started to fish well.
At one Point I had 10 takes in 10 casts. Not all of the footage was shown because it starts to be like a reel of the same thing !
So many advantages to Night lure fishing as we learned last week.
These fish have moved on and i'll be switching venues moving in to October which is traditionally a time for bigger fish. That said I’ve not had a decent size fish this year. Not sure how that reflects the state of the Bass fishery ?
GOUK_From 1 March to 30 November, not more than two seabass may be retained per fisherman per day. In recreational fisheries in ICES divisions 8a and 8b, a maximum of two Seabass may be retained per recreational fisherman per day throughout the year.
The minimum size of European Seabass retained shall be 42 cm.
A quick word on safety while Lure fishing for Bass at night - Don’t fish alone, I have a camera shy friend and we know the Ground and tides very well. The main problems come with Big tides up against those chalk cliffs, Rockfalls and not having an escape route. There were some compromises with fish landing because you risk falling in. Big wet boulders are lethal. I do go in the water but on the flat beach sections.
I hope this Description helps with any questions you might have.
As soon as think i know something in Bass fishing its time to change ! I recently told you about fishing low and slow with soft plastics during the night however it was that flash boost that was needed to retrieve with pace in todays video ! Always learning
