I Tried Saltwater Fly Fishing for the First Time… and This Happened

This was my first time ever saltwater fly fishing, and there was no better place to do it than inshore Galveston Bay. I took the skiff out and committed to throwing a fly all day, learning the basics of saltwater fly fishing and adapting to the conditions along the Texas coast.

After plenty of trial and error, everything finally came together and I landed my first-ever saltwater fish on the fly — an unforgettable moment. From reading water and positioning the skiff to making accurate casts and setting the hook, this trip was all about learning and earning it. It wasn’t the fish I was after, but a sand trout is still better than nothing!

If you’re interested in inshore fly fishing, Galveston Bay fishing, or thinking about trying saltwater fly fishing for the first time, this video shows exactly what that learning curve looks like from the skiff.
