This method goes back nearly 2,000 years to one of the earliest written descriptions of fly fishing, where Macedonian anglers used artificial flies made with scarlet wool and feathers to catch fish in moving water. I wanted to see how well this ancient fly fishing method still works today, so I took a box of old wet flies to some bigger trout water and started swinging them through the current.
