FALL TROUT FISHING!!
150 years. That's how long brook trout have been in Colorado. In that relatively short amount of time brook trout have taken over the state. If you're someone who cares about native trout species, then you'll likely have some amount of disdain for the western brook trout. After all, they've been actively displacing native trout species since they were introduced. But if you don't care about what you're catching the brook trout will ensure you don't get skunked.
In this video Andrew goes fishing in Colorado for some fall brook trout. With the leaves changing the views are gorgeous and the fish were biting. There was some amount of spawning activity in this video, which Andrew left alone and even got some video of, as he continued up the creek. For those of you who don't know brook trout spawn in the fall and we typically don't touch brookies during that time period. HOWEVER given the non native nature of the western brook trout and how invasive they've become, we don't have a lot of remorse for these fish.
I hope everyone enjoys another episode of HFA West! #fishing #flyfishing
