In this fly fishing masterclass, Signature Tyer Curtis Fry demonstrates how to fish buzzers on a stillwater in the Western US. If you're interested in fishing chironomids (also called buzzers), then this video is for you! During many parts of the fishing season, stillwater fly fishing revolves around chironomid fishing, and fishing pupa imitations at various depths is one of the most effective ways to catch stillwater trout. From rigging up to effectively covering water and finding fish, Curtis shows viewers his top-down approach to stillwater trout fishing, along with tons of tips on how to find success on the water. While many of these stillwater tactics are popular in the UK, the stillwater scene is still relatively untapped in America. We encourage you to get out and explore these stillwater fly fishing methods on your home water!

Many of the buzzer tactics popular in the UK with stillwater anglers like Signature Tyer Rob Edmunds also apply to fishing stillwaters in the US. While our Buzzer Fishing Masterclass video with Rob Edmunds took place on Graffam Water in the spring, here Curtis shows how similar tactics can be productive during the fall. Curtis discusses buzzer entomology, how trout feed on them, and the best methods to catch buzzer-eating, stillwater trout. From the washing line method to fishing the bung/indicator, this video is sure to leave viewers better fit to catch nice trout on their local stillwaters.

Curtis is an avid fly tyer living along the Wasatch Mountains in Utah. He grew up in western Idaho and the high deserts of eastern Oregon, fishing for bass, trout, carp, catfish, and whitefish: basically anything that swims. He started tying flies way back in high school in the 80s when he needed a way to fool high mountain brook trout. He hasn’t looked back since. Curtis is part owner of Fly Fish Food with one of our other Signature Tyers, Cheech Pierce.
