It’s always amusing how fishing can change so rapidly. You can go from watching your buddy fish and relaxing thinking your day is over to a switch being flipped and all of the sudden you’re in the middle of one of the coolest brown trout encounters of your life. Which is what happened to me on a recent trip with my buddy Bradly, when I was able to hook and land a big brown trout in a situation that left us both acting like little children on Christmas morning. This fishing trip started off on a crisp fall morning in early October. Due to some unusually warm weather the spawn seemed to have been pushed back a bit and I hadn’t even seen the first pair of browns yet, So I knew the fish would be aggressive and willing to feed. Historically Ive caught some really awesome brown trout this time of year, so I had high hopes going into the day… Having said that the day didn’t start off that well, and we were struggling to even get the smaller fish to bite.
But as it warmed up the fish became more active and with that some larger fish started to show themselves.

So as you can see after catching that 23.5 inch brown trout I started struggling. But honestly it was one of those things where I couldn’t complain, I was thrilled to have caught such a large brown trout to begin with. I was honestly pretty happy with letting Bradly fish most of the holes first and letting him decide when to end the day. But I had no idea what was about to happen.
