This video is a little bit different to our regular videos, it includes not only a rare catch and cook but an attempt at a how-to video with how to catch Whiting being the loose tutorial.
As many are aware Whiting are not difficult to catch and being a relative novice pleasure angler myself I am no authority but I’m trying to aim this video at people who consider the fish a pest or never eat smaller Whiting all without not really considering their true value.
Firstly its a great sport fish with the sheer numbers that can be caught alone but the size of the larger specimens can give a really good scrap. This again is all part of my aim to ensure people understand its a fish that's every bit as good as the traditionally sort after fish like Bass, Cod & others. Its super easy to prepare its part of the Cod or Codling family and so can be treated in much the same way.
My view is: Now-a-days the whole worlds seas & oceans have a man-made/industrially created composition which means all sea fish no matter how clean the catch area is can build up metal and toxins in their flesh.
I feel its very important to not to be put off by eating smaller fish in general, especially Whiting (unless obviously undersized by Law) smaller fish have less of the metal toxins in their flesh as they haven’t had a long period exposed to it.
By eating smaller fish we benefit by consuming healthier fish but in lots of other ways too.
In this latest video we head over to Otterspool outside the Britannia Inn car park on the Liverpool side of the river Mersey for a fishing session. Me and my dad use lug worm Herring peices & Mackerel to tempt the fish into biting. We get some nice fish and cook it at the end too.
