In this episode of Wild with Cyril I demonstrate one of the most common and popular ways to catch and cook a fish in the UK. Hopefully giving you more confidence to catch and cook a fish for yourself if you live in the UK.
I fish at a still water rainbow trout fishery, one of many that exist in the UK. I show the equipment I use, and explain the basic tactics I employ to catch a rainbow trout on the fly. Due to the warm summer weather, I initially experience difficulty, as the fish are lethargic and unresponsive to the fly. However I persist, changing locations, and fishing with a nymph fly. I spot a trout and stealthily approach it, casting my fly right in front of it. My sight fishing is rewarded as the 2lb rainbow trout takes the fly and is promptly landed on the bank.
After I explain how to humanely dispatch the trout, I take the fish home where I explain how to prepare it for cooking. Then, after rubbing salt and pepper on and wrapping it in tin foil, I place it in the fan oven to bake for 45 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius.
The trout is cooked, eaten, and enjoyed. Hopefully after watching this video the process of catching and cooking a fish in the UK is demystified.
