Confessions of a Fly Fishing Guide: What Clients Get Wrong

Confessions of a Fly Fishing Guide: What Clients Get Wrong

Springing for a guided fly fishing trip is a great way to learn new skills, catch fish, and become a better angler.

But a lot of folks feel like they're "not ready" for that trip because their cast is still a work in progress, or their mends don't look pretty.

Here's the truth: you shouldn't worry about ANY of that! The best guides are the best teachers, and teachers love helping folks refine and perfect their skills.

Sure, it's nice to row a pair of great anglers down the river (I enjoyed that in my time as a guide) but the most satisfying days were the ones where I got to help folks go from never casting a fly rod, to catching a fish.

So, the bottom line? Don't worry about your skill level before booking.

Just be upfront about your abilities, and you'll get matched with a guide who can help you refine your skills and make the most of your day on the water.
