Fly fishing for smallmouth bass in rivers is a great option for anglers when trout streams are too warm, or simply just for the great enjoyment and challenge fly fishing for smallmouths provides. For the most part, the hotter months are best, but sometimes it gets too hot and the water gets too warm for the bass to chase poppers and big streamers. At this time of the season I have found that fishing crayfish patterns on indicators gets me the most bass.
Fly fishing for smallmouth bass is a sideline for a lot of anglers, but I like it as much as trout fishing. It is a challenge catching big smallmouths and you will be using skills that are applicable to saltwater fly fishing, including double-haul casting and strip sets. Smallmouths are bulldog fighters and a great deal of fun on the fly, so come along and enjoy the video.
