FINDING THE HONEY HOLE!! Fly Fishing an Incredible Spring Creek for Brown Trout.
I think it’s every fisherman’s dream to walk up to the side of the stream and see dozens of fish swimming around without a care in the world. And when that inevitably happens one day it’ll have you second guessing how you’ve never fished the creek before, or why you’ve overlooked this spot for so long. In the case of this video there were so many fish at one point that I questioned whether I was even allowed to be fishing… and that’s how you know you’ve found the honey hole. Welcome back to another video.
I was getting chances at fish but they were few and far between. I had a gut feeling the fish were feeding on midges or some sort of small emergers, but I didn’t have a fly that perfectly imitated it and they just weren’t having it. And to rub it in my face they were literally jumping out of the water in front of me, almost as if they were laughing in my face. So in a moment of frustration I put on a jig steamer, which is something I tend to do when the fish are being difficult. It usually either works well of completely spooks everything, which is something I was willing to risk… And it totally changed the game.
For whatever reason this section of creek was absolutely loaded with fish… and I mean hundreds of them. I decided to grab my actual streamer setup and try to see if I could catch a larger fish, which resulted in some incredible clips which you’re watching right now. But I think Sometimes when you’re fishing places like this it can be just as fun to watch the fish come up and follow the streamer as it is actually catching the fish. There’s just something about a spring creek that get’s a fly fisherman excited, including myself, even though often times they can be frustrating and difficult to fish. After messing around with the big streamer I decided to nymph to see if I could catch one more fish before I moved on.
