2 Nights Solo Wild Camping in Lake District - Fly Fishing for Wild Trout, Fire & Heavy Rain!

Join me on an adventure to the Lakes District!

I wild camp for 2 nights starting from Mardale Head, hiking my way up to Small Water for the first night sleep. Once I get to Small Water, I realise one side of the Tarn is very boggy and marshy, so I decide to pitch my tent on the opposite side of the Tarn, in a windier more elevated, but ultimately drier spot.

On the first day I fly fish for about 2 hours between 6pm and 8pm (close to sundown). I have multiple takes on dry flies and manage to land an absolutely gorgeous wild Brown Trout, which I release and capture underwater footage.

Using my Mavic mini drone, I also manage to capture some impressive scenic shots of the area, including Haweswater, Small Water and other features like waterfalls, streams and mountain landscape.

On the first night, I cook my dinner in my tent due to wind and rain conditions and head to sleep. After a restful sleep, I wake up on the second day in the morning to a peaceful beautiful fog in the mountain and wait for it to clear as I enjoy my breakfast in the silence, peace and serenity of the fog.

After trying some fishing again on Small Water, I head up the path to High Street (peak approx 820m above sea level). On the way there I get completely drenched in rain, especially considering I skipped the waterproof trousers...!

After hiking for about 6-7 hours including stops, and covering approx 10-12 km in windy and wet conditions, I arrive at a tranquil and sheltered forest. A little island / peninsula sort of landscape sticking out onto Haweswater.

I find a nice flat piece of land with a fire pit next to it and decide to take the spot for my 2nd Night's camping.

After struggling to find dry kindle for the fire, I manage to "hack" the fire making by using my stove to kick-start the fire. This helped to get the bugs out of my face!

Due to heavy rain, I was unable to relax by the fire but had a wonderful night sleep listening to the falling rain and being sheltered from the wind by the forest trees.

In the morning of the third day, I wake up, put on my wet clothes again and hike back to the car for another 1-2 km.

It has been raining a lot over last few days and streams, rivers and waterways are roaring!
