Went back to Lake of the Woods this year again! We stopped in Duluth and stayed in a real cool area called canal park, just to break up the long drive. This area had nice hotels and bars and restaurants. It is also where the big great lakes freighters come in to Duluth/Superior harbor. They come in the canal and go under the lift bridge with iron ore, coal, taconite, lumber and many other items. We had a good time there but the last ship just came in the day before we got there.
The next day we left for Arnesons resort on Lake of the Woods, it is about a 4.5 hour ride from Duluth. We wanted to check out another resort called Zippel bay, which seemed like a nice place also. They also have the world famous Igloo bar where you can ice fish from inside the bar. They were closed on Mondays but Greg from Zippels was nice enough to show us the place. It's pretty cool and I will go there next time.
We then got checked in at Arnesons and prepped for fishing on Tuesday and Wednesday. I highly recommend This resort. They have nice comfortable, clean cabins, a good restaurant and run the fishing trips like a well oiled machine! Although like everything else, all the prices have gone up again and they up charge you for certain items on the menu, even if you are on the meal plan, which they never did before! The fishing was good this year, we limited out on our walleye and sauger, but only caught 1 northern and 2 perch! What a great time!
