Mahi mahi fishing in Puerto Rico is some of the most exciting offshore fishing in the Caribbean. In this trip, we head offshore out of Arecibo to target mahi mahi with Captain Carlos from Drop Fishing Charters using a true run and gun pelagic strategy.
By using binoculars to track birds and surface activity, we stayed on the move and presented natural baits until the mahi mahi showed themselves. This offshore hunting approach led to fast paced bites and explosive surface action.
We covered an extreme depth range from 1,000 feet out to more than 14,000 feet, constantly adjusting based on conditions and signs of life. This is one of the most effective and exciting ways to catch mahi mahi in Puerto Rico and a true test of offshore awareness and execution.
