When most people imagine fly fishing they think about the western US. At least that's what I grew up imagining. With the high peaks of the rocky mountains lingering in the back ground as trout willingly sipped dry flies it was hard to argue with something so perfect.
When I got my first taste of western fly fishing I quickly figured out that the image wasn't far off. In fact the Rocky Mountains were more impressive, the water was cleaner, and there were more unique fishing opportunities than even my mind could have conjured up.
On day 1 in Colorado Andrew and I fished half a day in a small creek that fed a lake. The creek was loaded with trout on the lower end, but most seemed to be stocked rainbow trout. As we worked up the creek we got into a few wild brown trout but the fishing got worse. It was a good, and much needed, warmup for what was to come in Colorado.
