Fly fishing or gear fishing? What are the strengths and weaknesses of both systems? This video is about what is possible and what is impossible. It is NOT about what is better. This is an attempt to put a real world perspective on some misunderstandings and common claims.
When I say gear fishing, I mean spinning gear or a baitcaster. And when I say fly fishing, that's honestly not so clear, because it's an ongoing debate. What is fly fishing? I don't care. More plainly, that's not what this video is about, but by breaking down the actual differences between the systems, we have a better understanding of what fly fishing is.
I’ve used both of these tools my whole life. And that’s what they are — they’re just tools. Of course, I use the fly rod a lot more than a gear rod, but that’s mostly because I fish for trout. WHY that matters is also covered in this video.
