These rivers are prime spawning grounds for wild steelhead and Pacific salmon, but they’re also home to resident (non-migratory) rainbow trout, coastal cutthroat trout, and brown trout. I’ve always dreamed of fishing here but never had the chance—until now.
Thanks to a recent opportunity to assist with wild salmon and steelhead research through the British Columbia Conservation Foundation, I’ve been living on Vancouver Island and finally have the chance to explore these legendary waters.
I’m no seasoned fly angler, but this has been a bucket list trip. Catching a wild rainbow trout and a cutthroat trout in these rivers is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time—and it feels awesome to finally check those boxes.
