I grew up bass fishing and when I was 30 taught myself to fly fish. Knowing what I know now, I'm not sure I would have gotten into fly fishing. The toxic attitudes and constant shaming that goes on in the fly fishing community is ruining the experience. Sadly, social media is helping spread the hate and it seems to be growing out of control. The general attitude in the fishing community is that fly fishers are the worst and that view seems to be gaining in popularity. Now after doing both, 18 years of fly and 40 years conventional, I wouldn't argue.
