Cold water bass fishing tips that actually work. If you’re not getting bites in winter/cold water (50°F or lower), this breaks down where to find bass, how to locate them fast, and how to make them bite—points, channel swings, creek channels, and the right cold-water crankbait/bladed jig/jig approach.

Today I’m showing 3 fixes for catching bass in cold water:

Find deep-water access near the bank (creek channels, channel swings, secondary/main points).

Cover water fast until you collide with a group (bladed jig in grass, crankbaits on rock/wood).

Then slow down and grind that area with a jig (bigger profile, minimal action).
Bonus: Hit the key windows (first/last light, falling barometer ahead of a front).

What you’ll learn
• How to read a map (creek channels/bends, inside turns, points) and spot “deep water next to shallow” on both reservoirs and natural lakes.
• When to pick a tight-wiggle vs wide-wobble crankbait in cold water (clear vs stained, depth ranges).
• A fast search plan for “95% dead water” days—and how to milk a loaded area for multiple fish.
• Why timing windows matter more in winter (and how to plan short trips around them).
